The Biggest Mistake the Adults Make in Youth Baseball Today

Happy Baseball New Year!

I think you all know that I believe our current player development system has some major flaws.

The problems start with the adults when they sign on to the win-at-all-costs approach rather than try to develop baseball players to be able to some day play at the local high school level.

The Hall of Fame pitcher Bob Feller stated in his book, 2009, pg. 72 Bob Feller's Little blue Book of Baseball Wisdom, about the state of youth baseball today.

Bob said, "The jury is still out on whether it builds up ballplayers. The biggest problem I have with it is the pressure to win. The pressure is not placed on the kids by themselves, but rather by the coaches, parents, and organizers...

Bob continues... "I say let the kids play, enjoy the game, make friends, and learn the ideas of teamwork, humility, good sportsmanship, and perseverance. After all, if children associate baseball with parental or coach disappointment or ridicule, then their interest in the sport will be severely diminished. No child want to be yelled at while playing a game!"

Well said Mr. Feller, one of the nicest men I ever met in the game. Glad I didn't have to bat off him. That would have been ugly.

BIGGEST MISTAKE: Lack of training for youth baseball coaches.

FACT: Only 1 in 5 youth baseball coaches ever receives any training on coaching. What else can we expect if our adults do not know anything different than major league style winning.

No one has ever shown them a better way.

Why Your Approach Won't Work.

I am starting to produce a series of DVD's on my baseball development training system. Keep an eye out.

Our current player development system does not work nearly as well as it should.

Why? Too much emphasis on winning and not enough focus on training baseball players.

The DVD's videos will give you and your entire youth baseball league a real live on-camera system to follow in order to properly approach youth baseball with the greatest return on investment.
